Guitar Chords - tomChord App Reviews

Crashes and way too expensive for poor performance

Was looking for a life chord picker to detect songs which are not stored in my phone. That works poorly. Even more annoying that it always crashes when I want to detect a song from my itunes library, even on latest iOS version on a 6s. And for this you should pay nearly 10€??

Cool and useful!

This app is worth checking out. The key finder is really cool and makes figuring out how to start attacking a song really easy. Surprisingly accurate - its fun figuring out how to play any song i want to!

something different

ive bought a lot of music apps but nothing ive seen has attempted what tomChord has. Its surprisingly accurate for acoustic songs and its a very useful tool for musicians like me who want to develop their musical ear

A great tool!

I just graduated from an audio production program and am so impressed with this app. It will allow me to recreate cool guitar riffs with my own style on it. Im excited for the music and recordings to come with this tool at my side. I fully recommend this app to any beginner players, professionals, producers, composers, recording engineers... The list goes on.

Very helpful!

Great app! Works like a charm and its really useful especially for beginners who want to learn different chord structures of songs.

Great find!

This app came up on my sale feed so I thought Id check it out. Its awesome, already learned 3 songs that I couldnt find tabs for. Glad I caught it on sale but wouldve paid full price for sure!

U r just what I needed

Sheeeit, I be feelin like the 2010 version of Mozart since I downloaded this app. Great find. Id buy two of them if I could.

Great concept!

I like the detection feature, but it keeps crashing on my ip4 4.1. In my opinion the detection feature could be a lot better, maybe a way to control the refresh rate. The accuracy is pretty decent overall but could maybe be tweaked a bit to get less incorrect readings. By far, from what I have seen, this is the most user friendly chord app out there. Nice features but could be improved on. Cant wait for an update to fix this crashing problem Im having. 3/5 stars for now. Due to: -Crashing -Detection could use tweaking -Price But overall, a great app!

One time use...

Can open it up once after a hard reset... Even having removed any apps running in the background... Only once...? Looks interesting but not the kind of functionality I would spend ten bucks on.

Nice concept, but....

i have a degree in music, and thought this looked interesting...well, it does look interesting, but thats about it...pretty much useless for anything more complex than Puff The Magic Dragon. ill keep an eye on it though, its a great concept which has yet to come into its own. A major bug as well...you HAVE to finish one song before trying another, unless you completely kill the app and restart it...

Decent UI way to sensitive

The UI is quite nice. Getting the songs to identify chords is really easy. Chord tracking is awful. It identified a new chord every eighth note or so. Does not filter silence, so will list many chords before a song starts. Highly recommend trying the cheaper apps first. I had much better luck with those. Note that I tried this with songs I knew well, or could easily do by ear, yet the output of this app was not very helpful.

Junk is the word!

This app is a piece of junk designed to steal your money. Try other cheaper one. Why does Apple allows such junky app on their app store. Retain your reputation of quality by removing such app please! I am very angry this doesnt do what it says.

TomChord

Basically its a app to take your money! Cant find a chord!!

Fa schifo!

You should indicate just the important chords and not every single note! The app like this is useless. There is no chance to save what detected so that everytime you loose what detected. The bar is also not appropriate. One star for you!

Awesome!

This app is wicked. Gave it 4 stars cause it does what it says, but would be better if you could play songs from your iPod library

ehhh, its okay

its okay...but certainly not worth the price..maybe at 99cnts. basically it shows you 2 possible keys that the song would be in, well that isnt much damned help at all if you know a little music you know that you can play any damned song in any key...its the chord progressions that make the difference..and this application does not give you the chords that the song could be played in, you have to figure it out for yourself. so in that sense what the F##k is this app doing for me...giving me a hint??? it is useless, for the just learning student, and anyone else...glad that i could be of help to any potential buyrs..save your time, and 3 dollars

pretty good

i dont agree with the last review. that person doesnt understand that every minor key has a relative and identical major key. Anyway its not the best it could be but it does do what it says.

Fantastic assistance and instructional tool

Tools for musicians are numerous, but the ones that actually do the job they claim are rare. tomChord is such an app. Using tomChord I played several songs for it that I myself have been playing for years. As it turns out, there were slight adjustments I needed to make in several chords in several songs. Although I can sight read I prefer to play and learn new things by ear because its either more simple or more fun at the time. tomChord is a like a proofreader for that task; acting as a double-check for my own approach. Its not the sexiest interface to use, but then again thats not really the point of what you should be concerned with when you use an app like this. Accuracy is generally pretty good, although I had a few things that confused the hell out of it. Sometimes I want its overall response time to be more consistent as well. Still, this is a great tool unusually tucked away in the store. Highly recommended.

No wonder it was onsale

This app picks up any sound in the room as a chord. Most apps will have you set a way to filter out the background noise. This app didnt recognize one major key chord i was playing. Its only use seems to be that it can tell you what notes you are playing in case you are too lazy to learn the fretboard.

Fantastic concept, nice implementation

This app is a great way to take the guesswork out of learning new songs, for the novice guitarist or more advanced players. The chord library alone is a fantastic feature, but chord detection makes the app a really powerful tool. The new version introduces some good improvements - the dynamically updating chord changes are great. While chord detection accuracy isnt 100%, hardly surprising given the complexity of the task, its pretty good, and no doubt will continue to improve with future updates. This is definitely an app you want in your toolkit.
